Game Recap
On this day, the Eagle nine renewed its respected rivalry with the Milwaukee Cream City Club on the city's west side. Sprinkles dampened the field while both teams prepared for the contest. But old Sol smiled on the home side when ballists crossed the dish five times in the opening round. The Diamonds showed sparkle of their own, ringing the tally bell nine times in the first two rounds. J. Rossbach's cloudbuster cleared the sacks and the outer garden, sending the Cream City scout on a sprint toward Lake Michigan. By the time he returned to his position, the tally chime seemed to have pealed more often than the noon bell at St. Peter's Church!

With fine field play behind him, Captain Hoffman silenced the city bell ringers for the next several rounds. Diamond strikers struck again with nine aces in the fifth round. S. Perkins, Jones, and Allen successfully connected on two knocks in the round. The visitors' rally followed Allen's surprise encounter with a horse grazing in the outer garden. The Diamonds speedy scout skillfully played a well-struck apple off the unsuspecting animal's posterior. However, the effort was nullified by the match's arbitrator who ruled it a foul ball. With all due respect for the fine gentleman, this writer questioned if it should have been pronounced as a foal ball. No response was elicited from the barrister, and play resumed.

Sheer determination helped the Cream City club mount a frantic comeback in the final rounds. With their timbers packing the punch of cannon shots heard in the distance, the Milwaukee side rallied. But Diamonds' tender Frank ended the contest in the ninth round when he captured a twisting daisy cutter and pounced on the third sack to award the match to his Eagle club. The blue-capped ballists emerged with a narrow 18 - 15 victory over their talented adversaries from the Cream City. A large crowd was in attendance.
